There are two errors against which the children of God—particularly those who have just come to trust in His grace—especially need to guard. The first, already dwelt upon, is that of looking to their own works, trusting to anything they can do, to bring themselves into harmony with God. He who is trying to become holy by his own works in keeping the law, is attempting an impossibility. SC 59.4

A very wise man once said that if we try to produce the fruits of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) with the flesh of men it is the same act of an apple tree trying to bear banana fruits; it is a very impossible task. The apostle recommended us to “… Walk in the Spirit… (v.16)”.

When we claim to be a disciple of God, we are to imitate His characters. And how do we do that, one may ask. Accept Him as your personal Savior. A Christian is “… to eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood… (John 6:54 KJV)”. In other words, we are to abide in Him and Him in us.

When we truly imitate His characters, obedience becomes second nature. Obedience will no longer be viewed as chore. Just like how breathing is a natural thing for us to do, obeying God, becomes natural in our everyday lives. But keep in mind that obedience is not how we earn salvation. “We do not earn salvation by our obedience; for salvation is the free gift of God, to be received by faith. But obedience is the fruit of faith.” SC 61.1

Application in my life: I want to read and study more of God’s Word every single day. I would like to dedicate my “first increase” in the morning to Him. And to pray without ceasing as the apostle recommended.
